Joyrampur's jute workers weave bowls, dishes and jute baskets. Normally, the jute basketry is sewn by machine, which contributes to the high unemployment and poverty rate in the rural areas of Bangladesh. When braiding and sewing products completely by hand, more people can obtain income with this craft.
The artisans, mostly women, collect their jute in a collection center and can braid the baskets in their own home and at their own schedule, in addition to receiving a fair price for their pieces.
The yute is an ecological and sustainable material since it is durable, in addition to being biodegradable and composable.
