What is Ethnica Deco?

Know more about this project

I am not a decorator or interior designer, nor an architect. My name is Tatiana and I have been a lawyer for the last 15 years.

I have always thought that working life is (too) long to dedicate yourself to just one thing. I am a curious and restless person and I had wanted to start my own business for years, but I couldn't think of "THE" idea.

Until one morning I realized that I had it right under my nose (literally). Three of my great passions, traveling, decoration and human rights, combined in a single project.

This had to be the way!

What do I offer you

Can you imagine being able to decorate your home with unique and exclusive pieces, ethically made by the best artisans in this world, adding personality to your home and turning it into a truly special place?

This is the universe of Ethnica Deco!

Our values

Craftsmanship

In an increasingly industrialized and alienated world, I bet on craftsmanship, on unique pieces, with soul, behind which we always find a person and a story behind.

Sustainability

I search all over the world for beautiful handmade objects to decorate your home, always made with natural or recycled materials, but I go a little further: I only select those organizations (cooperatives, foundations, social enterprises,...) that I fall in love with for their quality and work , but also for its social and environmental commitment.

Ethics

Can you decorate a house beautifully and at the same time generate a positive impact? Yes of course! There are thousands of artisans in the world making wonderful pieces and I am going to discover them little by little.

A little more about me

I inherited my passion for traveling and learning about other cultures from my grandmother, who traveled around the world several times (at that time...). I still remember when she told me that she had seen Victoria Falls hanging from a harness in a helicopter! Hallucinating...

Like she did, from each of my trips I always brought me a handmade piece from the country. I was amazed by the crafts, so different from each other, and seeing them at home made me feel like I had a little piece of that special and remote place with me.

I have always liked houses with personality, cozy and different, unique, special spaces.

My taste for aesthetics and decoration must come from my mother, who had a small store for many years and I spent hours in it and accompanied her to buy at the big decoration fairs.

I studied Law, but when I finished my degree I was not attracted to the typical business schools but chose to do a Master's Degree in Human Rights instead, it was what interested me the most!

So at 40 years old I have been reborn, I have started from scratch, I have upskilled myself and I feel very good!

Maximum Social Impact and Minimum Environmental Impact

In my opinion, the beauty of an object is linked to the environment that surrounds it. Consumption can contribute positively or negatively to our world, but I assure you that our products contribute to a better future.

Why?

Because they are made by hand, following mostly ancestral techniques, transmitted from generation to generation, allowing human cultures and traditions to be perpetuated.

I'll tell you a story: the Wichí women, an indigenous people in northern Argentina, go alone to the mountains for several days to collect "chaguar" fibers, and then weave as a community. Their fabrics are characterized by their geometric drawings, and during the process, they verbalize aloud the feelings that these drawings bring out, giving rise to an experience of intimate connection with themselves. Isn't it amazing?

Because, through your purchase, we support these artisans, brought together under social integration cooperatives, foundations, social enterprises, organizations that act under the principles of fair trade and that remunerate them fairly, allowing both them and their families to prosper.

Our suppliers place their artisans (90% women) at the center, investing in their training and progress, connecting their products made in remote places with the global market to ensure them a recurring income that allows them to live with dignity.

And because all our products are made with local natural materials or recycled materials, made through manual processes with a minimal energy impact.

I believe that there is nothing more sustainable from an environmental point of view than making a piece with fibers from a local wild plant, which is dyed with natural dyes extracted from roots and plants in the area, and which is woven with one's own hands, from home while keeping an eye on your minor children.

But I am also committed to the circular economy and offer you products made with recycled materials, such as the recycled cotton for our tablecloths, made from scraps from the Bangladeshi textile industry; the reused glass from Zanzibar's tourism industry that employs the island's marginalized youth; or teak wood products made from the roots of this tree, which is usually considered a waste product.

In any case, I always look for the products I offer you to generate the minimum environmental impact and the maximum social impact ;-)

Now that you know the project better, I hope you like it and join me in this wonderful adventure in which I trust I can add value and surprise you. You will discover the work of new artisans who, little by little, will be incorporated into the Ethnica Deco family, the latest collections, biographical stories, trips to origin and much more.

Let's build a better future together!
